West Berkshire Community Broadband
The First Network has been rolled out across Sulhamstead Hill across to Church Lane, Middle Farm and to Englefield and White House Green. Within our areas we have connected and have active customers in over 50% of the houses. That completes Phase 1 of the Rollout.
We have ordered the circuit into Wises Firs and we have a provisional date of Mid to end of November 2017. We are currently in the planning stage for the rollout although we have already identified and have permission from the house we have chosen to have the incoming internet connection. We have already identified and have permission for the main relay station to serve the bottom of Wises Firs.
We are starting off with providing a 100Mb/s service shared across Wises Firs, Shortheath Lane and Island Farm Road. This is a dedicated service that will provide a service that is significantly faster for each user than a 100Mb/s residential service provided by BT or Gigaclear.
West Berkshire Community Broadband was born out of a desperate need for better connectivity across the communities of Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet including the School, Greens, Hamlets and isolated homes within the parish.
We are a business run on a not for profit basis by a team of volunteers which means all the money goes into providing a great service.
While we know that there is another high speed fibre solution coming to the main areas of the parish it is expensive.
We started off providing a 100Mb/s service shared across Sulhamstead Hill, Englefield, Church Lane and White House Green. We are now rolling out to Wises Firs and the surrounding areas. This is a dedicated service that will provide a service that is comparable or better for each user than a 100Mb/s residential service provided by BT or Gigaclear. As we rollout we will take more and higher speed feeds to ensure our network maintains its consistent very high speed at each resident's house.
